Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of people asking me how to start acting. Becoming an actor takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Talent is also very important too, however, there are tools, which can help you sharpen the skills you already have. The thought of getting into the industry can be daunting, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t attempt it if it’s something you’d like to do. Below are some tips that you might find helpful. 🙂
Find Regular Training
Start by finding regular training – even if you think you have talent, we can all learn more and hone our skills. This will also help you to build up your confidence for when you go into a real audition. Even successful actors train!
Use Other Resources to Learn about the Acting BUSINESS
There are books, YouTube channels, and even social media pages that can give you helpful hints and tips. Jenna Fischer (Pam from ‘The Office’) wrote a book called ‘The Actor’s Life’ that is immensely helpful!
Get Involved In Small Scale Projects
You probably won’t land a lead role right away. Getting involved in small scale projects will help you to build up a reel, which is so important! You need a reel to show agents and managers to even get them interested in representing you and sending you out to appropriate castings.
Watch Shows You’d Like To Be On
Watch shows you’d like to be on and pay attention. What type of comedy is it? What’s the tone?
Or let’s say Broadway/theatre is more your thing. You can attend a matinee or get tickets day of and save tons of $$. You can do some research on the shows you think you would be right for you without breaking the bank. – Use the infographic below to pick one!
