Can I Actually BUY A Home?!
Wow. I can’t believe I’m even considering this right now. It’s so exciting! Especially since for a lot of people, (myself included) buying a house has felt like a far off dream. It’s so hard to save up the money you need and the prices just keep going up! But as long as you stick at it and you don’t give up, you will eventually be able to afford it. Buying your first house is exciting, but it’s also pretty scary. You’re spending so much money on it and you probably don’t have a clue what you’re looking for in a house, which means that it’s easy to make mistakes. IF you are thinking about buying your first home, here are a few important tips to remember. 🙂
Don’t Rush Into It
Everybody seems to have this idea that you need to buy a house as soon as possible but that’s not always the case. You also don’t want to rush into anything. You need to plan for the future and think about what your long term goals are, and where your new house will fit into that. If you want to stay somewhere for a long time, you need to make sure that you have enough space. If that case, it’s better to hold off for a few years and carry on saving so you can afford something bigger. Don’t just buy a house for the sake of it, make sure that you think about your decision properly.
Be Open Minded
When you start looking at houses, you will have an idea of what you want and where you want to live. But you need to go in with an open mind because you might not be able to get exactly what you want. You might not be able to afford to live in the area that you want to, and if you aren’t willing to look elsewhere, you’ll never find anything. If you keep an open mind, you may find the perfect house when you least expect it.
Budget For Everything
A lot of first time buyers make some big mistakes with their budget because they forget some of the big costs. You will have to pay all of the estate agent fees, get a survey done, and pay all of the admin costs when signing the paperwork. You will also have to pay for a moving company (visit MyBekins.com for a quote) and all of the boxes and packing materials for your stuff. All of those costs quickly add up and if you don’t plan for them, you could find yourself in a tough situation.
This is the most important thing to remember because the whole process will take a long time. You might not be able to find a place that you like for a long while and even when you do, the actual process of buying it is lengthy. Sometimes, there will be delays as well, so it’s important that you learn to be patient. (This is the hardest for me!)
Good luck, dreamers! Go get it!
